In the publications on this page, you will find collections of brand-new 15-minute musicals which were conceived, written, revised, rehearsed, and produced over a two month period. These short musicals are part of a unique experience offered annually by the Academy for New Musical Theatre as the culmination of the Writers’ Workshop Core Curriculum. The Core Curriculum is a ten-month program that begins every September, and is made up of monthly meetings in which participants present collaborative assignments.

As the final assignment of the Core Curriculum, the intense 15-Minute Musical Experience is designed to take ANMT’s 10 Steps of Collaboration and compress them into a rigorous process that goes from blank page to stage in two months. On 15-Minute Musical Launch Day in April, Core participants are put on a team, given a predetermined theme, and get to meet the five actors who will make up the cast. Just twenty four hours later, the team submits an outline. A week and a half later, the team turns in their rough first draft. The cast lightly rehearses this draft and presents it for the First Assessment. The teams then receive detailed dramaturgical feedback from the ANMT staff. Less than two weeks later, the second draft is submitted and goes through the same treatment at the Second Assessment. One more re-write and—a week and a half later— the Final Draft goes into rehearsals for a public performance in June.
